SAKURA TOBA - 鳥羽 咲音
Sakura Toba was born into a family of professional musicians in Vienna, Austria, in 2005. In 2018, she won a bronze medal at the 19th International “Nutcracker” Televised Contest for Young Musicians, held in Moscow, Russia.
Sakura gave her first solo recital in March 2019. In October of that year, she performed at Suntory Hall with the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Ryusuke Numajiri, as soloist in Tchaikovsky's "Variations on a Rococo Theme”. Since then she has performed with Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra, Gunma Symphony Orchestra, Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, Hiroshima Symphony Orchestra and Vienna Chamber Orchestra, working with conductors Koichiro Harada, Naoto Otomo, Junichi Hirokami, Joji Hattori, Kazuki Yamada and Stephanie Childress among others. She has also appeared at Tokyo Spring Festival, Dvorak Festival in Prague and many other recitals. In November 2019 she was awarded “The 2nd Shinji Hattori Music Award,” which is given to internationally promising young musicians. Sakura plays on a cello made by Jean Baptiste Vuillaume á Paris Rue Croix des Petits Champs 1840, which is on loan from the Anne-Sophie Mutter foundation. Sakura performs and tours as member of the “Mutter’s Virtuosi” and plays chamber music with Anne-Sophie Mutter.
Sakura began studying the cello at age six with Hakuro Mori. She has also attended master classes by Antonio Meneses and David Geringas at the Chigiana Summer Music Academy. She is a recipient of the 50th Ezoe Memorial Recruit Foundation scholarship (since 2021) and the 2021 & 2022 ROHM Music Foundation scholarship.
She is currently studying at Berlin University of Arts with Prof. Jens-Peter Maintz from October 2022.

2005年、音楽家の両親のもと、ウィーンで生まれる。 2018年第19回モスクワ若い音楽家のためのコンクール「くるみ割り人形」弦楽器部門で銅賞を受賞するなど、数多くのコンクールで入賞、優勝。 2019年３月に初のソロ・リサイタルを開催し、10月には沼尻竜典指揮／日本フィルとの共演でチャイコフスキー「ロココの主題による変奏曲」をサントリーホールで演奏。以後、原田幸一郎、大友直人、広上淳一、服部譲二、山田和樹、角田鋼亮らの指揮のもと、読響、日本フィル、東京フィル、群馬響、京都市響、広島響、ウィーン室内管と共演し、また東京・春・音楽祭、プラハ・ドヴォルザーク音楽祭をはじめ様々な場でのリサイタルなど、幅広く活躍している。2019年には世界に挑む若い音楽家とアスリートに贈られる第２回「服部真二音楽賞」を受賞した。
使用楽器はアンネ＝ゾフィー・ムター財団より貸与された1840年製のジャン=バティスト・ヴィヨーム。Mutter's Virtuosiのメンバーとしてツアーに参加するほか、室内楽でもムターと共演している。
６歳から毛利伯郎氏に師事。アントニオ・メネセスやダーヴィド・ゲリンガス、イェンス＝ペーター・マインツの各氏のマスタークラスにも参加した。 公益財団法人江副記念リクルート財団第50回（2021年）奨学生および、公益財団法人ロームミュージックファンデーション2021、2022年度奨学生。2022年よりベルリン芸術大学にてマインツ氏に師事。
